Sickening car jackers are being hunted after running down a Good Samaritan with his own car.
The victim was duped into stopping his Honda CVR when he noticed one man in distress in Billingham, Teesside.
As he pulled over to speak to the group on Cowpen Lane, the 37-year-old was punched and dragged from the vehicle.
The four men got into the car and drove at the victim before escaping at around 11.10pm on Tuesday night.
A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said the man was taken to the University Hospital of North Tees with non life-threatening injuries. He was detained for treatment.
A spokeswoman said: "One of the four men appeared to be in distress. As the victim pulled over to speak to them, he was punched through his open window and dragged from the car.
"They then drove at him, knocking him into a hedge."
The silver Honda was later found burnt out in Laburnum Grove in Port Clarence, near Billingham.
Detective Sergeant John Scott, of Stockton CID, is appealing for anyone, who saw the men abandon the car, to get in touch.
Witnesses to the attack on Cowpen Lane should also contact police on 01642 302226, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
