CONVENIENCE store millionaire Stephen Bell is buying a hotel and restaurant in North Yorkshire.

The Teesside businessman, who sold his Bells Stores empire to Sainsbury's a year ago, is about to complete the purchase of Chapters Hotel and restaurant, in Stokesley.

Chapters has been run for about 15 years by businessman and chef Alan Thompson, who recently set up a spin-off restaurant near the hotel, called Chapters Caf and Deli. Mr Thompson is believed to be retaining control of the caf and selling the hotel and restaurant to Mr Bell.

The deal is the latest in a series of lifestyle-business acquisitions by Mr Bell, who is still the chief executive of Sainsbury's at Bells.

He bought upmarket fashion store The House, in Yarm, with his brother Peter and the pair are believed to have bought another store in Harrogate, North Yorkshire.
