Fundraisers from Cancer Research UK donned pyjamas to get some shut-eye in a 17th Century bed in preparation for the charity's big day.
They were at at Washington Old Hall, Washington, Wearside, home of the ancestors of the first USA president George Washington, to promote the Britain's Biggest Breakfast event.
Regional fundraising manager Margaret Robinson said: "We want people to sign up for a fundraising pack and hold their own events. You can hold your breakfast party any time, any place and any where throughout March."
The charity hopes that this year's event - the seventh - will raise more than £400,000 towards the £2m it will invest in research on cancer cures and treatments.
Among the events held last year was the serving of porridge to officers at police stations across County Durham.
Information packs are available by calling 08701 602040 or visiting the www.cancerresearchuk.org/breakfast website.
