PUPILS at a Darlington comprehensive school saw a different side to their teachers - as they took to the stage for a version of Pop Idol.
Tickets were quickly snapped up for the Staff Idol competition at Longfield School, in which teachers imitated an array of musical stars before a judging panel.
Proceeds from the event on Wednesday, which was co-ordinated by head of music Simon Ferry, will help buy musical equipment.
Mr Ferry said: "I started teaching at Longfield last September and we have had a new musical department built.
"The place is now a hub of activity, with many talented pupils making use of our facilities.
"Since starting here, I have also found a wealth of talent among the staff.
"Often, students only see their staff in front of a whiteboard. They often don't realise what else these people can do."
