A BEER for gluten-intolerant drinkers has been launched by an independent brewery.
Hambleton Ales, near Thirsk, North Yorkshire, said the gluten and wheat-free beer was the first of its kind brewed in Britain.
Brewery owner Nick Stafford said: "We have developed an innovative process, which really succeeds in retaining wonderful flavours.
"We are delighted to finally make available a great-tasting British beer for gluten-intolerant drinkers."
Gluten is a substance found in wheat, barley and rye that can trigger immune systems to attack and damage parts of the body that absorb nutrients and vitamins.
The beer will be £2.79 for a standard 500ml bottle at off- licences.
It will also be available by mail order.
