STUDENTS from a Darlington school spent their winter in Russia as part of an exchange visit.
Nine Hummersknott School and Language College pupils visited their partner school in St Petersburg, to improve their language skills.
The trip comes after the St Petersburg pupils visited Darlington last November.
School bursar Janet Hopper said the exchange, in its first year, was very successful.
"We did so many interesting things, like seeing The Nutcracker at the ballet and attending English lessons for primary school children.
"It was very cold - but the children had never seen snow like it, so that made for lots of fun."
She said the school hoped the exchange would continue.
