museum staff who have rejected a management pay offer are planning industrial action.
But bosses at one of the region's most popular attractions, York's National Railway Museum, say they hope to remain open, despite next week's one-day strike.
The museum is part of the National Museum of Science and Industry, which has just offered a 2.5 per cent pay increase to workers.
Members of the Prospect and PCS trade unions have rejected the offer and have voted for a 24-hour stoppage next Wednesday.
The head of the York museum, Andrew Scott, said they were unable to improve on the offer because their core funding from the Government had not kept up with inflation.
He said: "As only a proportion of NRM staff are involved we hope to maintain our normal services.
