COMMUNITY groups, schools and individuals will benefit from Darlington Borough Council's free trees scheme this month.
The authority plans to give away 600 trees to people who applied to the offer before the January 28 deadline.
They will be contacted this week and told where and when to collect their trees, which include oak, birch, hazel, wild cherry, mountain ash and dog rose.
Councillor Stephen Harker, the council's cabinet member for environmental services, said: "It is pleasing to see so many groups, schools and individuals applying to take part."
