POLICE in the county are taking on an international look this week.
For the newest recruits to the county's force are from six countries, and are all commanders already.
The officers - from India, Kuwait, Botswana, Indonesia, Kenya and St Kitts and Nevis - are all training at the police training and development authority, Centrex, in Bramshill, Hampshire.
They are taking part in the International Commanders Programme, a ten-week intensive programme that prepares international police commanders for the strategic ranks.
Close relations with British forces have been built as part of the programme and the week-long special attachment to North Yorkshire allows the officers to observe first-hand all aspects of British operational policing including, major incident room co-ordination, community partnerships and forensics.
Chief Constable Della Cannings said: "We have a varied and fascinating schedule of events for the officers during their week with us.
"From major crime investigation to police dog training and roads policing, we hope to provide them with an in-depth insight into the work and skills of the British police.
"I am sure we will both learn a great deal from their visit, which will allow us to explore policing from an international perspective."
