CONSERVATIVE Party hopeful Anthony Frieze promised more bobbies on the beat when he visited Darlington yesterday.
Mr Frieze, the Conservative prospective parliamentary candidate for Darlington, shadowed beat officers to learn about their job first hand and said his party would bring an almost 30 per cent increase in beat officers.
"The police need our support as they struggle under the Government's politically correct inspired red tape," he said.
"We are committed to cutting waste and reinvesting in increasing police numbers. Conservative policies will see almost 60 new police officers in Darlington, an increase of just under 30 per cent.
"Only by hiring more police and freeing them from form-filling can the massive challenge of crime be tackled."
