A GROUP of North-East children have just returned from lobbying the Chancellor of the Exchequer.
The nine-year-old girls, from Teesside Prep School, in Eaglescliffe, were intent on grilling Gordon Brown about educational standards in developing countries.
The pupils took along a card with comments from each of them about problems faced by youngsters in other countries.
Teacher Carole Lara said the girls enjoyed meeting the Chancellor.
She said: "They've taken on board the idea that it doesn't matter how young you are, you have a voice and can make a difference."
The visit came after the girls impressed Stockton South MP Dari Taylor with a presentation. At the meeting, which was filmed for BBC's Newsnight, Mr Brown told the girls about his recent visit to Africa, and heard about the school's fundraising work for victims of the tsunami.
