FOOTBALLER Alan Shearer scored for charity at the opening of a Tyneside casino.
The Newcastle United and former England striker raised £7,000 for the northern region of the children's charity the NSPCC with a roll of two huge dice at Bannatyne's Casino on Newcastle Quayside.
The £5m casino, the latest venture of fitness chain millionaire Duncan Bannatyne, offered to donate the total score in thousands of pounds to the charity.
The Magpies star, who last year entered the NSPCC Hall of Fame for his services to the charity, rolled a three and a four, securing £7,000.
Mr Bannatyne said: "We wanted to do something substantial for charity as part of our opening weekend, so we were delighted when Alan Shearer agreed to come along and perform the dice rolling to win this money for the NSPCC."
Dennis Clark, NSPCC events manager for the northern region, said: "Alan does a great deal to help raise funds for the charity and this is just one of many appearances that he makes on our behalf.
"This was a very generous gesture by Duncan Bannatyne and I wish him all the best with his casino venture."
