TEENAGERS are being targeted as part of a new initiative to crackdown on mobile phone crime.
Every secondary school pupil in Hambleton is to be issued with a leaflet alerting them to the dangers of mobile phone theft.
Officers from the Hambleton Community Safety Partnership are delivering the leaflets as part of the Home Office Let's Keep Crime Down campaign.
The area's police unit will also be in action next week, visiting Thirsk, Bedale, Great Ayton, Northallerton and Stokesley to give out general crime advice and offer a phone security marking service.
Partnership chairman Rosemary Taylor said: "Thousands of mobile phones are stolen every month. Teenagers are particularly vulnerable as they often have the most up- to-date technology, but we are all at risk. Taking a few simple steps can reduce the risk of phone theft. By recording key information to be given to the police in the event of it being taken you can make it more difficult for the thief to use it.
