A VILLAGE playgroup trying to raise £150,000 for a building has received a glowing Ofsted report.
Fountains Playgroup and Pre-school is based in a temporary second-hand cabin in Grantley, near Ripon. The building is dilapidated and difficult to heat and the roof is in need of repair.
Despite the state of the cabin, Ofsted inspectors found that the playgroup is of a high quality.
Teaching is very good, they said, with very good leadership and management. Staff work well as a team and children take part in a very good, well-planned, enjoyable and stimulating range of activities, said the report.
Playgroup chairwoman Elaine Clarke said: "To say I'm very pleased with the Ofsted report is an understatement. It has highlighted the qualities of the children and the staff, which proves we have an excellent playgroup, thanks to the hard work and commitment of staff, committee and parents."
Parents are now working to raise £150,000 for a new community room in Grantley. It would house youth groups, an internet caf, pensioners' clubs and before and after school care, as well as the playgroup.
