THE last warship built by Swan Hunter on the Tyne will sail into port today.
HMS Richmond will dock at Spillers Wharf in Newcastle for a six-day visit.
During the visit, students from Bishop Auckland College and Darlington College of Technology will take part in an air defence exercise, as well as loading weapons with drill ammunition and stripping small arms, while catering students will prepare a meal for the crew.
Students from Richmond School, in North Yorkshire, Girl Guides and Sunderland Sea Cadets will tour the ship.
The crew will take part in a freedom of the city parade through Richmond on Sunday. Commander Mike McCartain said: "It is always a pleasure to return to the port where the ship was built."
The frigate has been in the Caribbean helping the relief effort after a hurricane hit Grenada and Grand Caymen in September.
