PUPILS are helping to put their town on the map by creating a local version of the world's most famous board game.
Youngsters from five primary schools in Ferryhill and Chilton have designed their own Monopoly boards featuring the buildings found on their doorsteps.
Jayne Bartle, a primary school teacher based at Ferryhill Business and Enterprise College to smooth the step up to secondary school, worked with partner primaries on the project.
Year six pupils at Broom Cottages, Dean Bank, Cleves Cross, Ferryhill Station and Chilton Primary Schools designed boards placing local businesses on the famous coloured plots.
Mrs Bartle said: "The project captured the imagination of year six pupils and gave them a taste of the enterprise ethos now prevalent at college.
"They had to use skills in ICT, literacy, numeracy, problem solving and creativity to come up with their own boards and seeing the final versions is incredible.
"They should be very proud of the way they worked and the finished games.
"I hope the project has helped them build confidence and helped them look forward to coming to the college as now they have a good idea of what we do here."
Maker of the game's regional versions, Hasbro, and local businesses helped have the boards produced and they were presented with prizes at a ceremony last night.
Game manufacturer Winning Moves is so impressed with the project it plans to work with the college to create Monolopy boards for Durham and Middlesbrough.
