Thornaby Town Council could face a hefty payout after former clerk Leanne Plant won a tribunal last week for unfair dismissal.
Ms Plant lost her job after she allowed members of Thornaby Independents Association (TIA) to photocopy political material.
Last night, the Labour group on Thornaby Town Council, who were responsible for the dismissal, met a solicitor to discuss the result of the tribunal, which could cost the council thousands of pounds in unpaid wages to Ms Plant.
The meeting was held behind closed doors and the TIA councillors were excluded after declaring an interest.
Vice-chairwoman of Thornaby Town Council, Beryl Robinson, said that after taking legal advice the Labour Group had decided to delay making a statement.
