A FIRM that designed sets for blockbuster films such as Tomb Raider and Die Another Day has started work on a £250,000 redevelopment of Lumley Castle.
The Baron's Hall, dating back to the ninth century, has been the venue for the hotel's Elizabethan banquets since the Seventies but will now play host to special events, including weddings, birthday parties and corporate functions.
John Dobbs, operations manager at No Ordinary Hotels, said: "The Baron's Hall will continue to be used for banquets but we wanted to create a spectacular venue that will also be used for celebratory events.
"We believe the development will enhance our already memorable architecture and strengthen our commitment to theatrical hospitality."
North-Yorkshire-based Stage One is working closely with Yvonne Scott, the designer who created Lumley's opulent interior.
The Baron's Hall is a Grade I listed building and the interior is constructed in such a way that it can be removed at any time to return the hall to its preserved condition.
The work will also include refurbishment of the Dungeon Bar, toilets and banquet kitchen and is due to be completed by March 10.
Lumley Castle has recently extended its dinner evenings programme to include murder mystery nights and Harry Potter-inspired banquets.
