A DIETICIAN has signed up for a gruelling Peruvian mountain trek to raise money for cancer patients.
Sarah Richmond, a former pupil of Huntcliff School in Saltburn, will join about 60 people to take the Inca Trail with Macmillan's Peru Hiking Challenge in May to raise funds for the charity.
The ten-day journey will take them to a 4,200m Andean peak and along mountain passes to Machu Picchu, Peru's famous lost city of the Incas.
She said: "It promises to be an extremely testing physical challenge as we will be trekking and rough camping in remote and dramatic conditions."
After leaving Saltburn to study at Leicester University and later work in a hospital pathology laboratory, Sarah trained to be a dietician at Leeds Metropolitan University. She now works with Macmillan nurses in Coventry
She said: "As one of two Macmillan dieticians, our role is largely involved in providing nutrition support to cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy, chemotherapy and surgery."
Cash raised will help to fund specialist health care professionals. Donations for Macmillan Cancer Relief can be sent to Sarah Richmond, Nutrition and Dietetics department, Walsgrave Hospital, Clifford Bridge Road, Coventry, CV2 2DX or www.justgiving.com/srichmondperutrek
