A VILLAGE'S population is to increase by more than a fifth after a housing development was approved.
Plans for 12 homes in Brafferton, near Darlington, which has only 50 properties, were unanimously approved by the borough council's planning committee on Wednesday.
Objectors said the increased housing, on land at Manor Farm, South View, and Townend Farm, The Green, would result in a loss of the village's character.
Twenty letters opposing the plans were sent to the committee, raising concerns about increased traffic and pressure on local amenities.
But the meeting heard that the Highways Agency was satisfied the development had enough off-street parking to accommodate residents.
It has recommended that access roads be widened and resurfaced.
