A PENSIONER died in hospital more than three months after a road accident, an inquest heard.
Teesside Coroner's Court heard how Kathleen Popple was involved in the accident in Richmond, North Yorkshire, on May 31 last year.
As she crossed a street, a Mercedes C220 was being reversed around the junction and it collided with her.
Mrs Popple, who walked with a stick, was taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital.
Doctors carried out plastic surgery on Mrs Popple's injuries and she was transferred to the James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, to recover.
Despite recovering from her injuries during the accident, Mrs Popple developed pneumonia in hospital. She died on September 24 last year.
Teesside Coroner Michael Sheffield ruled that the pensioner died as a result of pneumonia and recorded a verdict of natural causes.
The driver was interviewed by police and reported for driving without due care and attention. Following the inquest, the matter will now be dealt with at magistrates' court.
