THE owners of a pub are hoping their bizarre fundraising scheme will land them a slot on one of the biggest television shows of the year.
Fiona and Don Meecham, from the Duke of Wellington pub, in High Coniscliffe, are staging a log-chopping race to raise money for Comic Relief. Teams of three will chop logs and place them through a large red nose.
"We have a coal fire here and we have loads of logs, which is why we decided on a log-chopping race," said Mrs Meecham.
The Punch Taverns brewery is searching for the most original idea for Comic Relief, with the winner to feature on the Red Nose Day show on March 11, and Mrs Meecham entered the pub.
The event takes place on March 5, at 3.30pm in the pub's car park. Places are available and anybody interested can call (01325) 374283.
