YOUNG people are to get a chance to express their views on the area's health services.

The Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) forum for the District of Easington has won additional funding to conduct the survey.

The forum is particularly keen to find out young people's awareness levels on health issues, their use of health services and if there are any barriers to accessing them. It will be conducting the survey in partnership with Easington District Youth Forum (EDYF).

EDYF was launched last April by Prime Minister Tony Blair, and consists of 60 young people who promote the well-being of 11-19-year-olds and ensure they are involved in decision-making in the district.

Ron Lamb, PPI forum chairman, said: "It is vital that the views and experiences of young people are sought and the findings acted upon by the forum. The Easington PCT has already identified that young people are their number one priority.

"Constantly we are made aware of the deprivation throughout Easington that has led to the district being among the worst areas for health and life expectancy. It is essential that we speak and listen to young people in order to provide them with the health services they need to ensure a healthy, positive future.'
