VOLUNTEERS are needed in County Durham to help deal with young people who commit crime.
County Durham Youth Engagement Service is looking for volunteers to train as referral order panel members.
Panel members listen to young people and challenge their attitudes and actions before deciding on a programme of intervention to deal with the young person's offending behaviour.
The service is looking for men and women aged 18 and over from every ethnic and social background who can represent their local community, and are good at listening, talking and engaging with young people.
Referral order panels also give victims of crime an opportunity to say how it has affected them and what might help to make amends.
People who are interested in volunteering can contact James Firn, County Durham Youth Engagement Service on (01388) 776685.
