TEESDALE artist Keith Alexander is off to the Caf Royal in London on Wednesday, having seen his web site nominated for a British Academy of Film and Television Arts (Bafta) award.
He is one of five nominated in the factual category of Bafta's Interactive Awards for his work on an educational web site, www.artisancamnorth.org.uk.
The site, aimed at key stage two and three pupils and teachers, is an online artist's studio which allows internet users to log on and watch artists at work, with a chance to take part in online workshops.
Mr Alexander has been involved in many school art projects in Teesdale, the annual banner festival and has been commissioned to make several large pieces of public art.
So the move online is a natural progression to involve the wider community in what he and fellow artists are about, with the web site featuring a different artist each term. The site also includes notes for teaching staff, with suggested classroom activities.
"I am very pleased the site has been nominated, and that we are up there among some stiff opposition such as the National Theatre," he said. "The site shows art as a proper job."
