PARTY-GOERS will have their eyes on the heavens when they meet in a North-East forest next month.
Telescopes will be trained on Saturn and other celestial features when the Forestry Commission stages a star party in Hamsterley Forest, County Durham, on Saturday, March 12.
Observers will be taken on a tour of the winter constellations and given a glimpse of a stellar nursery thousands of light years away.
Ranger Robin Lofthouse said: "This is our third star party in Hamsterley and the previous ones have been incredibly successful. Saturn will be a really big draw, as the planet is at its very best, riding high in the sky with the rings wide open."
Before the telescopes from Sunderland Astronomical Society are pointed at the skies, rangers will lead a 'space-walk' through the forest.
The event starts at 6.30pm and costs £3 for adults and £2 concessions.Warm clothing and a torch are needed. Contact (01388) 488312 or visit www.forestry.gov.uk
