A PROJECT is running in Derwentside that aims to encourage young people to become more enterprising.
Established at Enterprise Place on Tanfield Industrial Estate, it provides an environment where young people are encouraged to think more creatively and develop the "can do" attitudes of entrepreneurs.
Derwentside's secondary schools are all taking part in the venture.
Martin Bell, manager of the centre, said: "It's a challenging ambition, but in essence we want to turn Derwentside into a more enterprising place.
"Very often, when children move into secondary education, they are suddenly little fish in big ponds after being big fish in little ponds.
"What we want to try and encourage at this point in their education is their natural ability to remain open and questioning because that's a key strength that builds an enterprising person.
"Thinking creatively is something we want to develop."
Enterprise Place is now into its second year and Mr Bell is confident that the work with schools will continue to expand.
From September, Enterprise Place will also provide resources for young entrepreneurs.
