CHILDREN who were evacuated to one of the North-East's best-known stately homes are being asked to help tell the building's story.
During the Second World War, pupils from Newcastle's Church High School were evacuated to Alnwick Castle, now better known as the location of Hogwarts in the Harry Potter series of films. The castle was also home to Alnwick College of Education until 1977.
Now former students and evacuees are being asked to get in touch for an oral history project, to tell the story of the castle from their perspective.
Stephen Manion, head of visitor services, said: "It is planned that the recollections of ex-residents and staff will be recorded to provide just one of the many new interactive displays and experiences that visitors to Alnwick Castle will be able to enjoy when the castle opens for the 2005 season later this year.
"Any photographs of their time at the castle, as a resident or a visitor, will also be hugely appreciated."
