AN MP went on the beat in her constituency last night.
Stockton South MP and graduate of the Parliamentary Police Scheme, Dari Taylor, joined special constable Carl Simpson on patrol.
The Labour MP, who is an honorary police officer, patrolled the streets of Stockton as her contribution to National Special Constables Weekend.
The three-day event aims to encourage more people to join the specials, who have the same powers as regular police officers.
Mrs Taylor, who is Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Police Minister, said: "We cannot underestimate the vital role that specials play in supporting the police force. Here in Teesside, there are over 100 volunteers who give up their own spare time to help Cleveland Police and they play an essential part of policing in our region.
"The Special Constables are everyday people, often with day jobs, who want to contribute something to the community. They are a tremendous asset to local policing and I know Cleveland Police will be anxious to encourage as many people as possible to join."
