A SCHOOL that offers sport to every pupil - including those who are not natural athletes - has netted a top award.
Sedgefield Community College has been awarded an extension to its Sportsmark Gold status for offering pupils a broad PE curriculum and opportunities to enjoy sport after school.
It has broadened its curriculum so all youngsters leave school with sport-based qualification from dance to sport leadership and its started after-school clubs such as trampolining, girls' football, cycling, tennis and badminton.
Head of PE Lee Hogarth said: "We are delighted with the award, it is always nice to get recognition for the whole school and staff.
"It is the pupils who have really won us this award, it shows they have put in the hard work and are participating in the activities we provide. We have worked hard to ensure every pupil can take part in sport at some level.
"Even if they are not naturally gifted at sport or don't do so well in the classroom or in exams they leave us with a PE related qualification.
"Sport helps to promote healthy living and improves behaviour, attendance and social skills which is good for the whole school."
