A CAMPAIGN group has been launched to fight further quarrying near ancient monuments.
TimeWatch has been formed to protest against Tarmac Northern's proposal to expand its quarry near Thornborough Henges, near Masham, North Yorkshire.
TimeWatch chairman George Chaplin said the protestors originally campaigned under the banner of the Heritage Action group. He said: "When we first started campaigning about Thornborough, there was just a handful of us and we were extremely pleased to find a supportive home within Heritage Action.
"The new group will keep its focus on Thornborough's archaeology, but will widen its involvement into all other related issues."
Protestors said the extension of Nosterfield Quarry will damage the site, which is said to contain the greatest concentration of late Neolithic and early Bronze Age circular monuments in the country. The claim has been strongly denied by Tarmac Northern.
