TREVOR the tiny terrapin faced a certain death after he was dumped in a cold street in a cardboard box.
But a curious member of the public saved his life after calling the RSPCA.
Now the under-nourished pet is on the road to recovery at the Animal Centre, Great Ayton, North Yorkshire.
Animal collection officer Debbie Cliff had gone to Redcar Lane, Redcar, last Thursday, and picked up Trevor, who was left in a shoebox without food or water.
She said: "Without a doubt, this little terrapin would have died if he had not been spotted by someone who was curious to know what was in the box.
"The cold weather and lack of food would have finished him off in no time.
"Trevor was probably dumped by someone who had bought him on a whim, and then realised they did not have the time or finances to care for him properly."
Anyone who knows who dumped Trevor is asked to call 08705 555999.
To give him a home, call 0870 010 1843.
