A SWIMMING pool is to be closed for more than two weeks for essential maintenance work.
Richmond pool will close on Monday. The pool and poolside will then be re-tiled before re-opening on March 25.
Leisure contract manager Iain Garth said the existing tiles were laid when the pool opened in 1976.
"The pool and poolside will really benefit from the facelift, and the work is needed to ensure we comply with European health and safety guidelines."
He said: "We have consulted with staff, clubs and disabled groups to ensure the end result is not only aesthetically pleasing but also satisfies users, such as those with a visual impairment."
Council leader John Blackie said: "The town pool is a hugely important asset. We are investing £25,000 in the improvements, with a similar amount of money earmarked for the re-tiling of the changing area later in the year."
From April 1, management of the leisure facility will pass from the control of the district council, into the hands of the Richmondshire Leisure Trust, which will oversee the running and development of the district's sports and leisure assets.
An official RLT launch day celebration will be held on April 24.
