The bodies of an elderly woman and a younger man were found today at a house in a seaside resort, police said.
Both deaths are being treated as suspicious and an investigation was launched by North Yorkshire Police.
Officers were called to the house in Tindall Street, Scarborough, after neighbours reported that they had not seen the occupants since Saturday.
Police forced entry to the house shortly after 9am and found the bodies of the woman downstairs and the man upstairs.
A force spokesman said: ''Police were called to a house in Tindall Street in Scarborough by neighbours concerned they had not seen the occupants since Saturday.
''Officers forced entry and found the bodies of an elderly woman, who was downstairs, and a younger man, who was upstairs.
''The deaths are being treated a suspicious and the house is cordoned off while a forensic examination is made.''
