PLANS for a £60,000 skate park in Darlington's South Park have been given the go-ahead by councillors.
The borough council's planning committee has approved proposals for the scheme, which forms part of the £3.9m refurbishment of the historic park.
The designs for the project were based on a series of consultation events with local youngsters, who were not happy with the initial ideas.
The park will now feature a skate bowl, ramps and a raised area for jumps after councillors supported the scheme.
After the planning meeting, Park East ward councillor Joe Lyonette welcomed the decision. He said: "There is no doubt that this is going to be the envy of the whole area.
"A few residents were worried about it attracting teenagers and anti-social behaviour. I don't believe that will be the case, these skateboarders are just passionate about their sport."
