COUNCIL staff were praised at a local government presentation ceremony.
Stockton Borough Council was named finance team of the year and received commendations in a further two categories at the LGC Awards for Excellence 2005.
The council was commended in the overall council of the year category and the management team award in London this week.
It is the second time in four years that Stockton has won the finance award.
Judges commented on the authority's sound financial practices, and their desire to listen and understand the customer.
Stockton Council's leader, Councillor Bob Gibson, said: "I am very proud of everybody who has helped us win these accolades. They are the result of a massive amount of very hard work. These really are the top awards in local government and this success confirms Stockton Council's place as one of the very best authorities in the land."
