PLANS to convert a barn are expected to be turned down.
Nine neighbours objected to plans to convert an outbuilding to the west of 21 North Green, Staindrop.
Teesdale District Council planning officers have recommended the scheme is refused planning permission.
Residents said the area was becoming overdeveloped and if the application was approved, neighbouring properties would be overlooked.
Planning officer Wendy Thompson said that the design of the proposed conversion was suitable for a conservation area.
But she added: "Whilst in principle the building is suitable for conversion and the proposed alterations to the building are acceptable, the effects of the conversion on the amenities of the adjoining residents are considered to be of such a significant level that the scheme should be recommended for refusal."
A separate application to alter a garden wall at 21, 22 and 24 North Green to facilitate the barn conversion has also been recommended for refusal. The planning committee will discuss the applications next Wednesday, at 5.30pm, at Teesdale House, Barnard Castle.
