A POPULAR male voice choir is seeking a recruit who can conduct him or herself properly.
The Durham Constabulary choir, formed in 1948, was initially open only to serving officers. However, it now welcomes all force employees and members of the public of "good-standing".
The 44 ensemble members perform 15 to 20 concerts each year in the North-East, raising thousands of pounds for charity. The choristers are hoping to attract an assistant conductor who could work alongside lead conductor Walter Robinson.
Retired teacher Mr Robinson has been conductor since 1991.
Sergeant Stephen Taylor said: "This is all part of managing our long-term future.
"If possible, we are hoping to attract someone who, when required, could accompany the choir at the piano and would be willing to succeed Walter when he retires.
"Anyone taking on the role would be eligible for a small honorarium and would be paid reasonable travelling expenses."
The choir rehearses at the force's headquarters in Aykley Heads, Durham, from 7pm to 9pm every Tuesday, with a short summer break.
To apply for the post, call Sgt Taylor on 0783 162 2290.
