IT is inconceivable that jewellery which may have been stolen from the victims of mass murderer Harold Shipman could end up belonging to his widow.
Primrose Shipman has instructed solicitors to reclaim £10,000 worth of wedding rings, necklaces, brooches, bracelets, and earrings, which were seized from Shipman's garage.
Unless relatives of the victims can prove that the 70 items belonged to their loved ones, they could become Mrs Shipman's property.
It is hardly surprising that the grieving families are outraged at such a possibility.
We hope that every single item can be reunited with the appropriate families.
But if there is any doubt about ownership, the jewellery should be sold and the proceeds donated to charity.
If Primrose Shipman has an ounce of decency, she will ensure that is exactly what happens.
Live the dream
THE Cheltenham Festival is one of the world's greatest sporting events.
To have a winner there is a dream come true.
So County Durham trainer Howard Johnson's hat-trick of winners in successive days must be properly recognised. It is a truly magnificent feat.
We believe in sporting fairytales, so how does this sound? Johnson completes a four-timer in the first race at Cheltenham today with Akilak.
The horse is co-owned by Alan Shearer, who is in his final season with Newcastle. Having had one dream come true, the Magpies captain goes on to bring the curtain down on a glorious career by scoring the winner in the FA Cup final, finally bringing silverware to success-starved Tyneside.
We can all dream...
