EASTER began early in the attractive grounds of a soon-to-be expanded hospice.
An Easter treasure hunt and spring fair was the latest fundraising event to boost the development fund at St Cuthbert's Hospice in Merryoaks, on the outskirts of Durham.
The hospice, in the former Park House, opened its gates to the public yesterday.
Attractions included the treasure hunt, plus a fancy dress competition for young visitors, a painted egg competition, craft activities and traditional children's games.
An array of goods were on offer on stalls, including tombola, jams, cakes, crafts and plants.
As an added incentive, the £2 admission charge included a cream tea for adults and cream eggs for youngsters.
All proceeds will go towards St Cuthbert's provision of palliative care for people with life-threatening illnesses.
The hospice, which now has only day-time provision, has a £3.2m fundraising target to provide overnight accommodation for its clients, who come from Durham, Chester-le-Street and the surrounding area.
