A CHARITY worker who has raised more than £250,000 for good causes will receive civil recognition today.
High street busker Norman Evans MBE will be awarded the Freedom of the Borough by Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council during a ceremony in Gisborough Hall.
An invited audience, including Mr Evans' family and friends, will watch the ceremony to honour the 61-year-old's achievements over the past 25 years.
"I think I've helped just about every charity - it's easier for me to say who I haven't helped," said Mr Evans.
There was recognition with an MBE for his charity efforts in 1998. "It was just unreal. It made me feel as though everything had a purpose in my life," he said.
And the accordion player has no intentions of giving up his fundraising yet.
He said: "I'm going to do it as long as our Lord allows and our Lord has been very good to me."
The motion to recommend Norman for the Freedom of the Borough will be proposed by Councillor Vilma Collins and seconded by Councillor Norman Davies.
