POLICE are promising to crack down on shoplifters, following the launch of a crime fighting partnership.
Three constabularies - Cleveland, Durham and North Yorkshire - have joined forces with shopkeeper members of the North-East Retail Crime Partnership (NERCP).
So far, 12 partners have signed up to an information sharing strategy to keep track of cross border criminals.
Annie Tate, chief executive of NERCP, said: "Following agreement of the protocol document, all partners will be able to request access to items of intelligence from retailers' own national database systems which track thieves targeting stores.''
Ron Hogg, Cleveland's deputy chief constable, yesterday promised a working protocol which can be used to prosecute thieves who are operating throughout the North-East.
