RESIDENTS are being urged to don their wellies in a mission to clean up a small stream near Darlington.
A series of work days to clear up Cocker Beck, in Cockerton, and surrounding area, start tomorrow.
The clean-up has been organised by Darlington Borough Council's countryside team, along with Northumbrian Water, North East Community Forest staff and volunteers and the council's environmental services.
The public are also being invited to help clear up the site, which could become a recreational and wildlife area for the local community.
Pupils from Branksome School have injected their creative ideas about how the site should be used and consultations have been held with Durham Wildlife Trust.
Initial designs for the site have been drawn up.
Future work will include forming a steering group, securing funding and carrying out.
Anyone who wants to take part can meet at the car park on the site adjacent to Staindrop Road, opposite Edgecombe Drive entrance.
Sensible footwear should be worn.
Further details are available from the countryside team on (01325) 388648.
