A HOODED man who grabbed the arm of a ten-year-old boy in the street is being hunted by police.
Although the boy struggled free when a passer-by appeared, he was frightened and ran home after the incident, which happened in Shildon at 7.40pm on Monday.
Police are appealing for anyone who was near the junction of Jubilee Road and Coronation Avenue at the time to come forward. They are particularly keen to talk to the passer-by, who may have seen the boy and the man together.
The boy told officers the man had asked him personal questions such as who he was and where he lived.
He said he was wearing a balaclava with only his eyes showing, was about 5ft 7ins, of medium build and was wearing trainers.
Detective Sergeant Jim Cunningham, of Newton Aycliffe CID, said: "We don't want to cause alarm among parents but obviously we are taking this report seriously.
"As always we advise children to be wary of any strangers who approach them, especially if they ask personal questions."
