AN APPEAL has been issued to Hartlepool residents to recycle glass.
Council officials fear people may be throwing glass away because they forget or do not think it can be recycled.
Glass made up eight per cent of all waste in the town and, although about 67 tonnes of glass is recycled each month, that is only a quarter of the glass that could be recycled.
Clare Belcher, the council's recycling officer, said: "Many people always recycle their empty beer and wine bottles but, for example, forget about other glass items such as condiment bottles, jam jars and cooking sauce jars."
Items can be recycled in the council's kerbside collections, at one of the local bring centres or at the Housing Waste Recycling Centre in Burn Road
