Residents have won the backing of a senior police officer over road markings they say will make their village an accident blackspot.
Police and Ryedale MP John Greenway are investigating complaints from villagers at Broughton, near Malton, about lines on the busy road between the market town and Helmsley.
A parish meeting heard protests that the system, with a continuous white line on one side and a dotted line on the other, was a hazard.
The parish meeting chairman, John Lund, said there had been no consultation and the lines made an already dangerous situation worse.
Inspector Neil Burnett, Ryedale's police chief, said he had carried out an investigation and agreed.
Mr Greenway said he would hold talks with councillors and then take further action
