FORESTRY chiefs are moving up a gear to stage a challenging motoring expedition into a North-East wilderness.
The ranger-led trek for four-wheel drives will use some of the 550-mile network of logging trails in the Kielder Forest, in Northumberland, normally off limits to the public.
Breathtaking views of the Borders countryside will be on offer, together with a chance to pull in to view wildlife and learn more about the forest.
Forest ranger Sarah Walker said: "It is the perfect antidote to traffic congestion and a unique chance to see Kielder from a whole new perspective.
"We get people coming from all over the country to take part, wanting to experience the great outdoors."
A few places are left on the six-hour trip. To take part, vehicles must be in good condition.
The cost is £30 per car and booking is essential on (01434) 250209.
The expedition sets off from Kielder Castle at 10am next Saturday. The Duke's Pantry tea-shop will be open for an early breakfast.
