A 30-YEAR-OLD cup competition contested by hundreds of footballers across Teesside has been won by a school from Hartlepool.
English Martyrs School won The Green Howards' under-16s County Cup for 2005, beating Conyers School, from Yarm, in the final in Middlesbrough.
More than 1,000 school footballers took part in the annual competition, with 30 schools competing for the title.
English Martyrs, captained by Matthew Clarke, won 4-1 in the final.
The team was presented with the Green Howards Trophy by Sergeant Major Ian Galloway, of the Green Howards Regimental Recruiting Team, which is based at Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire.
The competition, organised by Nick Schmuck, from the PE Department of Gillbrook College, in Middlesbrough's South Bank, is sponsored by the Green Howards.
Schools from North Yorkshire and Teesside took part in the competition, and the final was played at Middlesbrough Football Club's Community Centre Ground for the second year.
