ORGANISERS of a popular teenagers' disco which was marred by bad behaviour last week have threatened to cancel future events.
The party night, held at Atomic bar, in Darlington, last Wednesday, was attended by about 350 children, but ended at 10pm with teenagers fighting in the town centre.
Scuffles among some of the 13 to 17-year-old partygoers broke out in the Market Square and St Cuthbert's Church graveyard.
Police were called in to disperse the youths.
The party night, which featured DJ Chrissy G, was sold out weeks in advance.
A disco in May has been cancelled as a result of last week's trouble, and organisers are warning they may not arrange any more.
Organiser Paul Hamilton, manager of Darlington Boxing and Martial Arts Academy, said he warned the youths to behave themselves.
"We told the kids on the way in that if there was any carry on inside or outside, we would put a ban on future events," he said.
"We told them countless times that when you leave you must go home, but some of them just wanted to cause trouble, you always get a few with the attitude.
"There were two scuffles inside, but they were broken up quickly, but it's their behaviour when they left that's the problem."
Mr Hamilton said some of the teenagers had behaved like idiots.
He said: "Some of them were fighting in the town centre, it was just ridiculous.
"We've never had any trouble at these events in the past, but I told them beforehand if they didn't behave then that would be the end of it.
"As usual, it's the few who spoil it for the rest, but it's the majority who suffer.
"The kids love these nights, and that's why we put them on, but they have to realise we won't have them behaving like that."
He said organisers were considering whether to stop the party nights.
He said: "The May one is definitely cancelled, and we had planned one for the summer, but we'll have to see.
"We don't know whether we can trust them to behave themselves, so for now they will have to learn the hard way."
