A student who claims to be have been attacked by Wayne Rooney has threatened to take legal action against him.
Patrick Hanrahan, 22, has claimed he was punched in the head three times by Wayne Rooney in Manchester's Tiger Tiger nightclub.
The accusation is being investigated by Greater Manchester Police and music management student Mr Hanrahan is waiting to see if criminal charges will be pressed against the Manchester United star.
If they are not Mr Hanrahan's family has threatened to take civil action against 19-year-old England forward Rooney.
Speaking from his home in Eaglescliffe, near Stockton, Mr Hanrahan's father, Brian, said: "Patrick is waiting for the police to come back to him.
"If the police decide not to press charges he will take out a civil suit against Rooney."
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said they were waiting for Mr Hanrahan to confirm whether he wanted to press charges. Patrick Hanrahan told a national newspaper he had "joked" at Rooney as he walked past the footballer's group.
He claimed the star "went absolutely crazy" and punched him three times.
A spokesman for Rooney said: "Wayne was approached by a man he had never met in a menacing and threatening manner. At no stage did Wayne respond."
